Welcome to the North Community Network of Specialized Care

The North Community Network of Specialized Care is a regional collaborative Network of specialized clinical services from across Northern Ontario. The North Network coordinates and provides a seamless collection of specialized clinical services, which are culturally and linguistically sensitive, to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health needs and/ or challenging behaviours. The establishment of partnerships, in a Network format, between agencies funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Education, and Justice increase the overall clinical capacity and the range and quality of supports provided to people. Education and Training for clinical supports, staff, and families are key activities for the North Community Network of Specialized Care to assist in the development of local capacity building for delivering services and to complement what the local community has to offer. The opportunity to be part of a developing Provincial Network is seen as important to Northern Ontario. We have much to contribute as well as learn from the involvement and interaction with the other three Provincial Networks of Specialized Care.

Northern Ontario includes the communities in the North West: Kenora/Rainy River District; Thunder Bay and District; Algoma District; Sudbury/Manitoulin District; and the North East: Cochrane/Temiskaming District; and Nipissing/Muskoka/Parry Sound Districts. There are over 800,000 square km. of land across the North Region with a population of 840,000 people. While the bulk of the North’s population is concentrated in cities and small communities, there are vast distances between communities. Video conferencing plays an important role in bringing people and resources together across the vastness of the North. The results are greater access for individuals to a specialized service regardless of where they live!
