COUPLES THERAPY: A POSITIVE MODEL FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES
Presenter: J. Dale Munro, MSW, RSW, FAAIDD
Teenagers and adults with intellectual disabilities often want to live together, or dream about marriage and having children. This session (aimed towards parents and professionals) looks at issues related to couples, counseling, dealing with extended families, and key ethical issues. Relevant history and research on this topic will be discussed, along with ways of determinng a couple's prognosis to benefit from counseling. Attention will focus on the "Support-Centered Couple Intervention" model.
